LaFaro, one jazz' greatest innovators, blazed a trail in only six short years with Ornette Coleman, Stan Getz, Hampton Hawes, Victor Feldman (once Miles Davis' pianist, and a Steely Dan studio regular), Freddie Hubbard and many others.
