Shouldn't you be answering phones or replying to emails instead of taking pictures of yourself with your camera phone? Well, at least take one that makes it look like you're working, and send it to HiFromWork. Then send the link to your boss and prove what a busy little bee you are.

Watching Moore stand in the way of “Stuart Little,” (A cautionary tail)

The end of Moore’s influence came when, years later, she tried to block the publication of a book by E. B. White. Watching Moore stand in the way of “Stuart Little,” White’s editor, Ursula Nordstrom, remembered, was like watching a horse fall down, its spindly legs crumpling beneath its great weight. Although librarians don't come out all that well in this story, archivists figure quite heroically in the author's sidebar on her research into the saga.

bass genius Scott LaFaro (Jazz bassist who blew them all away)

In July of 1961, the bass genius Scott LaFaro, perished in a fiery car crash after visiting family and friends in upstate NY, just ten days after doing the last gigs he would ever do with the great Bill Evans's trio (which became the legendary live recordings from the Vanguard) . He was only 24 years old. But he was also developing as a fine writer as well, as this Evans trio track - a mystical ballad in 9/4, shows. LaFaro, one jazz' greatest innovators, blazed a trail in only six short years with Ornette Coleman, Stan Getz, Hampton Hawes, Victor Feldman (once Miles Davis' pianist, and a Steely Dan studio regular), Freddie Hubbard and many others. But he is still best known for his revolutionary contributions to that classic Evans trio. (previously). After this rendering of "Jade Visions", Evans never played it again anywhere. (Though he did do LaFaro's "Gloria's Step" frequently in the 70s.)

"The most startling features of Kosovo, now that the cleansing of the Serbian minority is on hold, are the poverty of the province ... and the pitiful economy that keeps it locked in." (Saved and Depoliticised at One Stroke)

"The most startling features of Kosovo, now that the cleansing of the Serbian minority is on hold, are the poverty of the province ... and the pitiful economy that keeps it locked in." Once a supplier of farm produce to other parts of Yugoslavia, Kosovo now brings in almost all its food, along with fuel and building materials. Its leading ‘export’ is scrap metal, a harvest of rundown plant from the Milosevic era and Nato bomb damage. Kosovo’s trade gap is dramatic: imports account for 90 per cent of legal cross-border trade ... The ambiguous status of the territory has been a large disincentive to foreign investors. Who can tell where their capital will be tied up or their taxes levied ten years from now? In a largely autonomous part of Serbia? A protectorate run by a handful of jaded international bodies? Or Europe’s latest sovereign state?
